Guanethidien inhibit norepinephrine release from sympathetic
nerve endings (peripheral). It also depletes the tissue stores of
catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) from sympathetic nerve
endings (peripheral).
This results in a decreased in the cardiac output rate and a decrease in peripheral resistance which lowers blood
pressure.
Fluid retention occurs with the use of guanethidine.
