Orthostatic hypotension (with dizziness, lightheadedness, and weakness) is frequent in people taking guanadrel. Rarely, fainting upon standing or exercise may occur. Hypotension is increased by alcohol, hot weather, or alcohol. Sudden standing or exercise should be avoided.

Guanethidine should be taken exactly as directed. If a dose is missed take only the next scheduled dose. Do NOT make up the missed dose or double the dose.

Special care should be exercised when treating patients with a history of bronchial asthma because they are more likely to be hypersensitive to catecholamine depletion, and their asthma condition may be aggravated.
